Perth Scorchers have the richest history in the Big Bash League. After all, winning the silverware thrice and finishing runners-up thrice in 10 campaigns is not everyone’s cup of tea. The initial Perth Scorchers team was a force not to reckon with. They finished runners-up in their first two seasons followed by back-to-back winning campaigns in the 3rd and 4th seasons of the BBL.

The Scorchers repeated the success in BBL 2016-17 to win their third and last trophy so far. Last season Perth Scorchers came close to having their hands on the trophy for the fourth time but fell short of 27 runs against Sydney Sixers in the finals. Following not a fruitful but successful campaign, Scorchers are heading to their 11th BBL with some new faces added to the roster.

Ashton Turner is set to lead the Perth Scorchers side with Adam Voges as the head coach. Perth Scorchers are blessed with four ICC T20 World Cup winners in their squad – Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Agar, Josh Inglis, and Jhye Richardson. But their availability for the entire season is in question.

Jhye Richardson has been called in the international Test squad for the Ashes campaign. David Moody will take Richardson’s place in the roster in his absence.

Turner’s deputy Andrew Tye will have a responsibility to carry the bowling unit along with Jason Behrendorff. Perth Scorchers added England international Tymal Mills as a replacement for Bydon Carse who will miss the campaign due to his knee injury. Mills is experienced with BBL and has already represented Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes in earlier campaigns. Tye and Mills will get help from inexperienced Aaron Hardie, Matthew Kelly, and Lance Morris throughout the campaign.

Peter Hatzoglou who played with Melbourne Renegades last season will provide spin options. Mitchell Marsh’s form will be the key for the Perth Scorchers campaign this season. But he has been added along with Josh Inglis and Ashton Agar to Australia A squad. Their absence might hurt Perth Scorchers’ plans this season. Cameron Bancroft will take the gloves in absence of Josh Inglis. Kurtis Pattinson is likely to get chances in Orange Jersey along with Kiwi left-hander Colin Munro.

Mitchell Marsh – ICC T20 World Cup winner and man of the match of the final Mitchell Marsh will be the player to look out for this season. Marsh played a crucial role as a to-order batter throughout the T20 World Cup campaign. Marsh scored 185 runs in 7 games at an average of 61.66 and a strike rate of 146.82. He also provides bowling options to Perth Scorchers. In the last campaign, he took 4 wickets in 5 innings with an economy of 6.52, the lowest among the Scorchers.

Colin Munro – Ex-Kiwi international Colin Munro is one of the key figures in the Scorchers squad. Munro was the leading run-scorer for Scorchers last season. He scored 443 runs in 15 innings including four half-centuries at a strike rate of 128.03. Looking at his record in T20 tournaments across the world, he will be an integral part of Perth Scorchers throughout the campaign.

Andrew Tye – Scorchers Deputy Andrew Tye will be the soul of the bowling unit in the absence of Jhye Richardson. Last season Tye came up with 21 wickets at an economy of 7.99 for Scorchers and was their second leading wicket-taker below Richardson. His trademark Knuckle Ball and ability to nail yorkers in death overs will be most damaging for the opponents. 93 wickets in 69 matches of BBL so far at an economy of 7.63 prove the point that Perth Scorchers bowling unit is in right hands.

Perth Scorchers Women haven’t had the success in Women’s BBL yet in winning the championship but they have had a constant appearance in the playoffs. They have reached the playoffs 5 times out of and managed to reach the finals twice in WBBL.

In a bid to strengthen the batting lineup they added Beth Mooney – the highest run-scorer in WBBL with 3298 runs in 94 innings at an average of 45.81 with 1 century and 30 fifties – to the squad in 2020 WBBL|6.

In the first season with Scorchers in WBBL|6, Beth Mooney scored nine 30-plus with 4 half-centuries. With her presence in the team, the Scorchers Women must feel confident to go all the way in WBBL|7.
