Despite this, they managed to reach the final of IPL 2022 suggesting that KKR can up their game during crucial encounters

The franchise also had a leadership change from Dinesh Karthik (2019 and part of 2020) to Eoin Morgan (part of 2020 and 2021). Morgan is the current captain for KKR, and under his captaincy, the KKR team reached IPL final for the third time in 2022.

KKR Match Highlights

The Knight Riders played 14 games in IPL 2019, out of which they won 6 and lost 8. They shared the same points with the fourth-ranked Sunrisers and the sixth-ranked Kings, but could not breach into the top-four due to the net run rate.

The 2019 season is remembered for the all-round performances from the player of the series Andre Russell (510 runs and 11 wickets). He grabbed worldwide attention with his 4 unbelievable match-winning knocks of – 49 off 19 against the Sunrisers, unbeaten 48 off 17 against the Kings, 48 off 13-balls against Royal Challengers and unbeaten 80 off 40 against MI. His overall strike rate remained above 200.

In 2020, KKR once again finished fifth, with 7 wins and 7 losses, even though they shared equal points as the fourth-ranked RCB. Among some of their exciting games in 2020, the one against PBKS was a treat to watch. They won the match by a narrow margin of 2 runs.

The key contributors were Shubman Gill (57 runs), Dinesh Karthik (58 from just 29), Prasidh Krishna (3 wickets) and Sunil Narine (2 wickets). Gill (440 runs) scored the most runs for KKR in that season. Then newly auctioned Varun Chakravarthy proved to be a great deal for KKR as he topped the bowling chart for KKR with his 17 wickets.

Although KKR had just 2 wins from first 7 games in the IPL 2021, they had managed to play final of the season.

In the previous IPL season, KKR finally made it to the knock-out stage for the first time in three years.  KKR defeated RCB in the first eliminator by four wickets, chasing down 139. Narine was the key player of the match with four wickets, including the ones of Kohli and Maxwell. He also contributed with the bat with his 26 runs from 15 balls.

KKR then faced the hot favourite DC in the second qualifier game in which the Knight Riders restricted the opponents under 140 once again thanks to a tight bowling spell by Chakravarthy (2 wickets for 26). A solid partnership by Gill and Venkatesh Iyer ensured the team the ticket to the final. Iyer is the KKR player to watch out for in this season.

KKR got the target of 193 in the final against CSK. However, despite 91 runs opening partnership by Gill (51 runs) and Iyer (50 runs), KKR could not manage to score more than 165 and ended up as runners-up
