Top 5 Australia T20 Players to watch out for and why they can win it for Australia

glenn-maxwell

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is the one title that has eluded Australia. Their performances haven’t been any special either. They’ve made it to the semi-finals twice and finals once. Their overall win-loss record reads 16-13 and they couldn’t make it past the Super 10s in the last two editions.

To make matters worse, Australia’s T20I form this year has been pretty poor. The Aaron Finch-led side have recorded only four wins from 15 encounters. But quite a few of the first-choice players haven’t featured in T20Is regularly and the Aussies will be hoping they can come together and create a bigger impact this time around.

Here are five players who can win the T20 World Cup for Australia.

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell was absolutely magnificent in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The off-spinning all-rounder from Victoria was the backbone of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batting line-up. He amassed 513 runs at an average of 42.75 and a strike-rate of 144.10. He smashed six half-centuries as well and constantly got substantial scores batting at No. 4 and 5. For Australia, Maxwell is likely to bat at 4 or 5 as well and hence, he will be the one to watch out for.

David Warner

David Warner last played a T20I more than 13 months ago (against England in England). Since then, there have been a couple of seasons of the IPL and he was dropped halfway through the 2021 edition. But that was for different reasons. Warner has been in decent form. In the IPL 2020, the left-handed opener aggregated 548 runs and he got 195 runs in eight innings this season. He has loads of experience and has played quite a bit in the UAE. Thus, his form and his partnership at the top with Aaron Finch may be crucial on the slow and low UAE pitches.

Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh has had a stellar year with the bat in T20Is in 2021. The Western Australian seam-bowling all-rounder has mustered 442 runs at an average of 31.57. He batted at No. 3 in most of the games and was a revelation. He is very handy with the ball too and adds to the balance of the side. He has taken eight wickets in seven innings that he has bowled in 2021. If he continues batting at 3, he could well be a big asset for the Aussies and can make a difference.

Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc hasn’t played a lot of white-ball fun88 in the last couple of years but he was on the tours to West Indies and Bangladesh in July and August. While he struggled in the T20Is against West Indies, the New South Wales left-arm fast bowler found his rhythm back in the ODIs. He took 11 wickets in three ODIs against West Indies before he returned with three scalps in two games against Bangladesh in the T20I series. Starc will be vital with the ball and also, at the death where he is lethal with his yorkers. He has been inconsistent but Australia will be banking on one of their premier fast bowlers to do the heavy-lifting.

Adam Zampa

Adam Zampa has been Australia’s No. 1 spinner in white-ball fun88 for quite a few years now. The leg-spinner has featured in 23 out of the 24 T20Is that Australia have played since the start of 2020. In this period, he has returned with 24 wickets and has an economy rate of 7.89. The pitches have been sluggish in nature and Zampa’s role will be critical, especially in the middle-overs.
