Match Prediction – AS vs BH, 18th Match BBL 2021/22 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?

Adelaide Strikers will be up against Brisbane Heat in the 18 th match of the Big Bash League 2021. Both sides have won just one game so far in the league and are in the lower half of the BBL table.

Having played three matches so far, Adelaide Strikers have won only once. They began their campaign with a narrow loss to Melbourne Renegades. However, Strikers showed plenty of character to bounce back in the reverse fixture and ended up winning by 49 runs. Perth Scorchers proved to be too good for Adelaide Strikers in their third match this season and they ended up suffering a massive defeat. The batting unit has been underwhelming so far and they will be looking for an improved performance here.

With six points from three games, Adelaide Strikers are level on points with Hobart Hurricanes and occupy the fifth position in the league table. They are just a point behind Melbourne Stars in fourth and have a net run rate of -0.033.

Brisbane Heat, on the other hand, have played four matches and much like Adelaide Strikers, have won only once. That win arrived against Melbourne Renegades who are stuck at the bottom of the table. In their other three games, Brisbane Heat suffered pretty heavy defeats including the most recent 53-run loss to Sydney Thunder. Like Strikers, Brisbane Heat’s batting unit hasn’t managed to deliver on most occasions.

They are second from bottom in the table with four points from four games. They have a net run rate of -0.732 and need to turn things around quickly if they wish to make a run for the playoffs.

As far as the head-to-head record is concerned, Adelaide Strikers have been more successful. Strikers have won nine games while Brisbane Heat have managed only six wins. Adelaide Strikers have won three of the last five matches between the two teams.

Head-to-head record

Wins : Adelaide Strikers 9, Brisbane Heat 6

Last 5 matches: Adelaide Strikers 3, Brisbane Heat 2

Who will win today’s match?

Both sides are yet to hit top gear this season. The batting order has been an area of concern for both Strikers and Heat in this tournament as neither side has managed to score more than 160 runs so far. Brisbane Heat will be the fresher of the two sides as Adelaide Strikers have a match scheduled with defending champions Sydney Sixers on Tuesday. Defeat to Sixers in that game could demoralise the Strikers even more ahead of this match.

The difference between the two sides on the basis of what we’ve seen so far is marginal. However, Brisbane Heat might have a narrow advantage going into this game.

Adelaide Strikers will miss the services of Travis Head and Alex Carey. The duo is involved in the Australia squad for the Ashes against England. Brisbane Heat will also miss Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser and Mitchell Swepson because of the same reason.

Local player Henry Hunt is joining the Strikers’ extended squad as a replacement for Carey. Meanwhile, Matt Renshaw will look to strengthen the batting unit following his return from Australia A duty.

Both Colin Munro and Mitchell Marsh have collected centuries in the Big Bash League this season already. In Marsh, Scorchers have one of the most in-form white-ball allrounders in the world. The likes of Andrew Tye and Tymal Mills have also troubled opposition batters.

Sam Harper has been the most reliable player for Adelaide Strikers this season. The return of Aaron Finch is expected to rejuvenate the batting order. It will be interesting to see who makes way in order to accommodate Finch in the starting XI.

Game changers for Adelaide Strikers vs Brisbane Heat, 18th Match BBL 2021/22

It will be worth keeping an eye out for the battle between Matt Renshaw and Mark Steketee. Ex-Heat player Renshaw has a tense relationship with many of his former teammates and that rivalry may prove to be the narrative backdrop for this game. Mark Steketee was the leading wicket-taker for Brisbane Heat last year and he will be looking to have a big impact here.

Who will be the best match bowler?

Rashid Khan is one of the most devastating T20 bowlers in the world. The Afghan leg-spinner is capable of outfoxing batters on a regular basis. Even in games where he doesn’t pick wickets, Rashid’s tight economy rate plays a massive role. He has picked up 75 wickets in 53 Big Bash League matches in his career so far and has a stellar economy rate of 6.51.

Who will win today’s man of the match?

Mitchell Marsh has been in the form of his life recently. After steering Australia to a win in the T20 World Cup final, he marked his return to BBL11 with an unbeaten century. Marsh remained not out on 100 from 60 balls in the game against Hobart Hurricanes and he can also bowl crucial few overs.

Who will be the best batsman for Adelaide Strikers?

Matt Short has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise underperforming Adelaide Strikers batting unit. Short has been explosive at the top of the order and he got a fine half-century against Perth Scorchers.

Who will be the best batsman for Brisbane Heat?

Chris Lynn is the highest scorer in the history of Big Bash League. He has hit the most sixes in the tournament’s history and is also a two-time BBL Player of the Tournament. Lynn hasn’t managed to get going this season and plenty will be expected of him in this game.
