Chennai Super Kings will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 22nd match of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Defending champions CSK have got off to a horrible start and have lost all of their four matches so far. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore are third in the table with three wins from four games.
Chennai Super Kings have had a nightmare of a campaign so far. While MS Dhoni giving up captaincy was the talk of the town ahead of IPL 2022, on the pitch, it has resulted in disaster. New captain Ravindra Jadeja still doesn’t look comfortable in the shoes vacated by Dhoni and CSK haven’t clicked as a team this year.
They suffered yet another demoralizing loss, this time at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have also had their fair share of issues in IPL 2022. CSK faltered with the bat once again. Moeen Ali missed his half-century by two runs while Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja added 27 and 23 runs respectively. The four-time champions could only manage a score of 154/7.
Young Abhishek Sharma led the run-chase for Sunrisers Hyderabad, as he brought up his maiden IPL half-fifty. He went on to score 75 off 50 as SRH won the game quite easily with eight wickets in hand and with 14 balls to spare.
That defeat has left CSK dead at the bottom of the table. They also have a net run rate of -1.211 which is the worst in the entire league.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are in great form at the moment. They have won their last three matches on the trot. As a result, RCB are in third place in the IPL 2022 table and have been quite impressive so far.
RCB defeated record IPL champions Mumbai Indians quite easily in their recent game. Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s heroics, RCB restricted MI to a score of only 151/6 with Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga taking a couple of wickets each.
Young Anuj Rawat steered the run-chase for his side with the help of Virat Kohli who fell short of a fifty by only two runs because of a shoddy decision. RCB ended up winning by seven wickets with nine balls to spare.
Chennai Super Kings have a significant advantage in head-to-head record between the two teams. Of the 28 matches played, CSK have won 18 games while RCB have been victorious on only nine occasions.
Head-to-head record
Wins : Chennai Super Kings 18, Royal Challengers Bangalore 9
Last 5 matches: Chennai Super Kings 4, Royal Challengers Bangalore 1
Chennai Super Kings have been extremely underwhelming this year. They just haven’t managed to click as a team and it has been a difficult start to life for Ravindra Jadeja as an IPL captain. Royal Challengers Bangalore, meanwhile, are flying at the moment with three wins on the trot and look like a pretty well-rounded side. They will be the favourites to win here.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have an edge over CSK. Find out why in our CSK vs RCB Prediction analysis.
Questions have been asked of the CSK bowling unit who’ve conceded runs by the dozen in the past couple of matches. They lack a clinical edge to their bowling attack. The CSK batting unit will also depend heavily on the likes of Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have had their bases covered this season with some top performances in the bowling and batting departments. Harshal Patel has led the bowling unit well but RCB will miss him as he exits the team bio-bubble to be with his family in difficult circumstances. The return of Glenn Maxwell will also bolster the middle order which has already looked splendid with Dinesh Karthik helming it.
Wanindu Hasaranga have troubled opposition batters with his spin bowling and has become a key part of the RCB team. Hasaranga picked up two wickets in the last match.
Moeen Ali, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja might be in contention to win the man of the match award. For RCB, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Wanindu Hasaranga are expected to be in the running.
Robin Uthappa failed to make a mark in the previous match but he has looked like the best batsman for CSK in IPL 2022. He scored 28 runs in the first match against KKR and managed a fifty against LSG in the following game.
Dinesh Karthik has been the best finisher in IPL 2022 so far and he has fit the RCB side like a glove. He has scored 97 runs in four matches and is yet to be dismissed. His strike rate of 204.55 is an important asset for the side.
