Lucknow Super Giants will collide with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator of IPL 2022 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. While Lucknow Super Giants had secured their qualification even before entering the final league match of the season, Royal Challengers Bangalore edged past Delhi Capitals in the table to qualify for the playoffs.
Martlet Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants have also been extremely impressive in their debut Indian Premier League campaign. They have secured victories in nine of the 14 matches and ended the league face with 18 points to their account, as well as a net run rate of +0.251.
LSG bounced back after losing successive matches against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals by winning against Kolkata Knight Riders by a narrow margin of two runs. Quinton De Cock slammed a fantastic unbeaten century and stitched the highest opening stand in IPL history along with KL Rahul. However, KKR took the game deep thanks to knocks from Shreyas Iyer, Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh, but ended up falling short in the final over.
On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a more difficult route to the IPL playoffs. While they did defeat table toppers Gujarat Titans by 8 wickets in a match with Virat Kohli return to form and slammed 73 of 54 deliveries, RCB also had to depend on Mumbai Indians defeating Delhi. Capitals in their final league match in order to book their place in the last four.
DC’s defeat against MI helped RCB overtake them on the league table and finish with 16 points compared to Delhi’s 14. They ended the league phase with eight victories and six losses and also had a net run rate of -0.253.
The two sides have squared off only once before. They met earlier this season when Royal Challengers Bangalore won by 18 runs.

Both RCB and LSG are arriving into this on the back of wonderful batting performances in their respective last league encounters.
Plenty will depend on how the batting units, led by KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock for LSG, and Faf Du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell for RCB perform. The side which manages to maximize the most out of their opportunities will likely end up winning. RCB have their confidence back and could be favourites to beat LSG.
For Lucknow Super Giants, captain KL Rahul is expected to hold most of the cards. Quinton De Kock has been operating at an extremely high level and LSG will also find support from Marcus Stoinis and Deepak Hooda. Avesh Khan and Dushmantha Chameera continue to wreak havoc with pace while Ravi Bishnoi is quickly becoming a world-class leg-spin prospect.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have had their bases covered this season with some top performances in the bowling and batting departments. Harshal Patel has led the bowling unit well and Josh Hazlewood has also been key. Glenn Maxwell will also bolster the middle order which has already looked splendid with Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed helming it. Faf Du Plessis has also done a great job up top while Virat Kohli looks like he has finally recovered his form.
Wanindu Hasaranga has emerged as a genuine wicket-taker for Royal Challengers Bangalore this season. He has impressively controlled the middle overs and has also swung the equation in his side’s favour on several occasions. Hasaranga has 24 wickets to his name and is only two behind Yuzvendra Chahal’s tally of 26 wickets in the IPL 2022 Purple Cap equation.
KL Rahul, Quinton De Kock, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan are expected to be in contention to win the man of the match award. Meanwhile, Faf Du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Harshal Patel and Josh Hazlewood could be key for RCB.
Quinton De Kock has been mesmerising lately. Against Kolkata Knight Riders, besides the odd life he received, he timed every ball to perfection and registered the third highest individual score in IPL history at 140*. He has gathered 502 runs from 14 matches at a strike rate close to 150 for LSG this season.
The previous match against Gujarat Titans signalled the return of Virat Kohli and RCB fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Kohli looked in extremely good touch and he not only defended well, he also took on the charge of scoring runs with ease. He has only managed 309 runs so far but if he can operate at the same level, the advantage will be with RCB.
