Match Prediction – ST vs AS, 59th Match BBL 2021/22, Knockout – Who Will Win Today’s Match?
Sydney Thunder will take on Adelaide Strikers in the knockout match of the Big Bash League 2021/22. Sydney Thunder have secured passage to the BBL11 Finals after qualifying from the third position in the league. Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers overcame Hobart Hurricanes in the Eliminator fixture.
Sydney Thunder have had a pretty great campaign so far. They finished third in the league table but despite having the same number of points (35) as their rivals Sydney Sixers, they failed to qualify for second place because of a worse net run rate of +0.725. Thunder will be ruing their chances as qualifying from second position would’ve handed them two opportunities to seal their spot in the final.
With that being said, Sydney Thunder will fancy their chances against Adelaide Strikers, a side they’ve beaten twice already this season. Thunder ended their league stage campaign with a win against Renegades by the narrowest of margins (1 run). Gurinder Sandhu kept his nerves and not only did he defend eight runs in the final over but also picked up three wickets including the important wicket of Aaron Finch who had been on song in the game. That majestic final over allowed Thunder to end on a high and morale in the camp will be high following the gritty victory.
Adelaide Strikers have had a spectacular turnaround in the second half of the campaign. At one point, they had been struggling at the bottom of the table but they managed to turn it around pretty quickly and are on a five-game winning streak. Strikers secured BBL Finals qualification from the fourth place in the table.
They were up against fifth-placed Hobart Hurricanes in the Eliminator contest. Matt Short and Alex Carey were sensational with the bat and helped the team post a total of 188/6. Short finished with 11 runs short of a century. Hobart Hurricanes never got going in the run-chase as experienced campaigner Peter Siddle picked up four wickets to rock the side. Strikers secured a 22-run victory and will now set their sights towards Sydney Thunder.
Sydney Thunder dominate the head-to-head record between the two sides. They have won nine games compared to Adelaide Strikers’ seven wins. Thunder have also won four of the last five matches played between the two teams.
