Match Prediction – ST vs MR, 55th Match BBL 2021/22 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?
Sydney Thunder will face Melbourne Renegades in the 54
th
match of the Big Bash League 2021. While Thunder are third in the table and have been exciting to watch this season, Melbourne Renegades are stuck to the bottom of the table.
Sydney Thunder have had a pretty great campaign so far but consecutive defeats in the last two matches have hurt the side. They have lost their second position in the league to cross-town rivals Sydney Sixers despite having the same number of points. The back-to-back losses will be a cause of retrospection in the Thunder camp.
Following the narrow defeat at the hands of Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Thunder suffered an instrumental collapse in the Sydney Smash against Sydney Sixers. Their bowling unit proved ineffective in stopping Josh Philippe, Daniel Hughes and Moises Henriques as Sixers fell three runs short of 200 runs. Despite Chris Green’s half-ton in the lower order, they ended up losing by a massive margin of 60 runs.
Despite the nature of that defeat, Thunder will back them to pick up points here against Melbourne Renegades. They are third in the table with 31 points and would like to go past Sydney Sixers in second place.
For Melbourne Renegades, this season hasn’t been too dissimilar to the last season or the one before that. They had finished at the bottom of the table in both those campaigns and that seems to be the case for them in BBL11 as well. Despite hitting a spark of form in the middle of the campaign, it proved to be short-lived and they are winless in their last three fixtures.
They’ve lost against Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars by massive margins recently and morale will be pretty low in the camp. The defeat in the Melbourne derby would’ve especially been jarring. Renegades have lacked firepower in all three departments this season and in order to win here, they will have to punch considerably above their weight.
The head-to-head record paints a pretty surprising picture given their respective forms this season. Melbourne Renegades have won nine matches while Sydney Thunder have won only on five occasions. With that being said, Thunder have won the last five fixtures played between the two teams.

Who will win today’s match – Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Renegades, 55th Match BBL 2021/22?
Melbourne Renegades have been woeful in their matches so far this season whereas Sydney Thunder have discovered a winning formula. Although they are arriving into this game following a massive defeat against Sydney Sixers, they are the favourites to win against Renegades.
The last time these two sides met was nearly 11 days ago and on that occasion, Sydney Thunder registered a whopping 129-run victory with Daniel Sams remaining not out on 98!
Sydney Thunder will be buoyed by the return of Usman Khawaja who had scored two centuries in the two innings of the drawn SCG Test against England. Lachlan Hearne, Sam Whiteman and Arjun Nair are the local replacement players in the squad.
Indian batsman Unmukt Chand made his debut for Melbourne Renegades in the clash against Hobart Hurricanes. Mackenzie Harvey and Jake Fraser-McGurk have returned positive COVID tests and are isolating from the rest of the group. Captain Nic Maddinson also endured a hamstring injury while Kane Richardson has left the squad due to personal reasons. In Maddinson and Richardson’s absence, former captain Aaron Finch will be leading the team.
Usman Khawaja made a dramatic return to the Australian Test squad smashing twin centuries against England in the same match. Khawaja’s return to the Sydney Thunder will only strengthen the batting unit that looked off-colours in the previous match against Sixers.

Jason Sangha and Daniel Sams have been in top form and will be the top contenders to win the man of the match award.
