It is the reverse fixture between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades. The two teams return to the same venue (the Adelaide Oval) for their respective ninth fixture of the BBL 10 season.
Adelaide Strikers have been inconsistent throughout this tournament. They have won four and lost as many from the eight games that they have played so far. The Alex Carey-led side have not lost more than two games in a row neither have they won more than two games in a row and have just not been able to build any sort of momentum. However, they will start favourites against the bottom-placed Melbourne Renegades and will fancy themselves a second win on the bounce.
On the other hand, there is not new for the Melbourne Renegades. They are lying low at the bottom of the points table, just like last season. The ‘Men in Red’ are currently on a seven-match losing streak (last season, they lost nine in a row) and are on the brink of being the first team to be knocked out this season. Nothing has worked in their favour and like last season, a wooden spoon finish is looming large.
Adelaide Strikers are well ahead in terms of head to head record against the Melbourne Renegades. These two teams have played each other 13 times in the history of the BBL and Adelaide Strikers have won nine of those games. In fact, since the start of the 2017-18 season, Melbourne Renegades have beaten Adelaide Strikers just once. Hence, Aaron Finch and his men face an uphill task as they look to arrest the slide.
Team news: Adelaide Strikers
There are no injury concerns in the Adelaide Strikers side. They named an 18-man squad for the last game and there are no changes expected to that squad.
Team news: Melbourne Renegades
Shaun Marsh had stayed back in Perth for the birth of his child and missed the last game. He might miss another game if he doesn’t fly back in time. Meanwhile, Rilee Rossouw suffered a hamstring injury and was ruled out of the last game. He is likely to sit out for this game too. Imad Wasim was brought into the side after he missed the game against Perth Scorchers due to border restrictions. The left-handed all-rounder from Pakistan will continue to hold on to his place.
Adelaide Strikers : Philip Salt, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey (c & wk), Jonathan Wells, Jake Weatherald, Ryan Gibson, Rashid Khan, Danny Briggs, Wes Agar, Peter Siddle, Harry Conway
Melbourne Renegades : Aaron Finch (c), Sam Harper (wk), Shaun Marsh/Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mackenzie Harvey, Beau Webster, Mohammad Nabi, Imad Wasim, Jack Prestwidge, Josh Lalor, Noor Ahmad, Kane Richardson
Key players
Aaron Finch : Aaron Finch has had a rough season so far. The Melbourne Renegades skipper just hasn’t been able to get going. He has constantly got starts but hasn’t been able to kick on and get those big scores. In fact, he hasn’t crossed the 40-run mark even once in seven innings in this BBL 10. Finch’s lack of runs has contributed to his side’s misery as well. Thus, he will be desperate to get back amongst the runs.
Wes Agar : Wes Agar has been very impressive once again in the BBL. He has been a key bowler for the Adelaide Strikers over the last few seasons. After an impressive showing in the 2019-20 season, the Victorian fast bowler has been excellent this season as well. He has gone wicketless just once and has picked up 14 wickets in 8 games. Moreover, Agar has a bowling strike-rate of 12.8 this season.
