It is Australia Day and also, the last day of the league stages in this 10 th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). In the first game of the day and 54 th of the tournament, Brisbane Heat will take on Perth Scorchers at the Sydney Fun88 Ground.
While Perth Scorchers have already booked a spot in the knockouts, Brisbane Heat are still in contention and this is a must win game for them. One thing is certain that the Heat cannot finish in the top three. Moreover, the Heat need to win this game and also need to obtain the Bash Boost point which will take their points tally to 29. In addition to this, if a result or two goes their way, they will certainly finish fourth or fifth on the points table which will be good enough.
Brisbane Heat didn’t have the best of starts early on in the tournament. However, they picked up form and looked solid at one point. However, they did go through a slump once again towards the end of the tournament but after winning their last game against Melbourne Renegades, they have managed to stay afloat.
On the other hand, Perth Scorchers had a similar start like Brisbane Heat and just couldn’t get going early in the season. However, they seem to have got on a roll and have won eight out of their last nine games. The three-time champions are almost certain to finish in the top two which will provide them that extra chance of making it to the final if they fail on the first attempt. Thus, they will want to continue this winning momentum and take it into the Finals week.
Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers have faced each other 14 times in the history of the BBL and it is Perth Scorchers who are in the lead. They have won eight games while Brisbane Heat have won six. Perth Scorchers currently have a three-match winning streak over Brisbane Heat.
Team news: Brisbane Heat
Marnus Labuschagne and Mitch Swepson have fit in nicely since the Test series against India was concluded. Morne Morkel has overcome an ankle injury and is looking fit and has featured in a few games as well. Thus, there are no injury concerns for Brisbane Heat.
Team news: Perth Scorchers
Mitchell Marsh had suffered a side strain which saw him miss a couple of games. However, he returned to the side in the last game and looked decent. There are no other injury concerns for Perth Scorchers.
Predicted XI

Key players
Chris Lynn : Chris Lynn has been superb with the bat and he has been one of the reasons for Brisbane Heat’s late resurgence in this tournament. The Brisbane Heat skipper has constantly given his side some blistering starts at the top of the order. In fact, Lynn has never been dismissed for a single-digit score this season and has only one score under 20. He has amassed 369 runs at an average of 41.00 and a strike-rate of 152.47.
Jhye Richardson : Jhye Richardson has been absolutely magnificent in this BBL season. He is leading the wicket charts and has picked up 26 wickets at an economy rate of 6.75. He has a bowling average of 12.07 and has a bowling strike-rate of 10.7. The Western Australian quick has been one of the big reasons why Perth Scorchers have been successful in this tournament. He has bowled exceedingly well at every stage of the game.
