Match Prediction – CSK vs RR, 12th Match IPL 2021 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?

In match number 12, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) square off against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Both teams are coming off a similar start, losing a high-scoring first game before winning their second encounter.

CSK looked listless and toothless with the ball in the first game. The bowling attack struggled to cope with the dew and there was not much movement for the pacers or turn for the spinners on offer either. Their top-order had flopped as well and the middle-order did a commendable job to get them to 188.

However, the tide turned in the second game on a slightly different surface, one which was a bit sticky and tacky. And the CSK bowlers, especially Deepak Chahar exploited that beautifully as they rolled over Punjab and restricted them to a paltry total of 106/8. The batters knocked it off without too much fuss.

Meanwhile, RR fell agonisingly short (four runs) while chasing 222 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) but it was the one-man show of Sanju Samson that took them that close. The bowlers who were carted around bounced back strongly in the second game. They blew away the Delhi Capitals top-order and kept them to 147/8 in their 20 overs. But in their chase, RR’s batting couldn’t really take off either. It was David Miller’s 62 that kept them in the hunt before Chris Morris’ four sixes in the last two overs sealed the deal for them.

Thus, both top-orders hadn’t really got going. The bowling also have shown signs of improvement but both sides were aided with slightly helpful conditions. Thus, both CSK and RR will be looking to build on their win from the previous encounter.

CSK have a better head to head record against RR and have won 14 games while RR have won 10. However, RR won both encounters in the 2020 season.

Team News

Chennai Super Kings

Lungi Ngidi is going to be out of quarantine and is likely to be available for this game. There is no news yet on Jason Behrendorff’s availability. Ruturaj Gaikwad has looked out of sorts at the top of the order and CSK have Robin Uthappa waiting in the wings. However, MS Dhoni might want to give Gaikwad a couple of more games before turning to the experienced Uthappa. The rest of the side is likely to remain unchanged.

Rajasthan Royals

Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to a finger injury. The premier England all-rounder has flown back home for surgery. There is no replacement announced yet. Moreover, Jofra Archer continues to be unavailable as he is recovering from a hand injury. RR are unlikely to make any changes to the side that won against DC.

Predicted XI

Chennai Super Kings: Ruturaj Gaikwad/Robin Uthappa, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar

Rajasthan Royals: Manan Vohra, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Shivam Dube, David Miller, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Chris Morris, Chetan Sakariya, Jaydev Unadkat, Mustafizur Rahman

Key players

Faf du Plessis : After getting a duck in the first game, Faf du Plessis got some runs against Punjab. He scored an unbeaten 36 to take CSK home while chasing 106. The former South African skipper was struggling with his timing in the early stages of that knock but he found some fluency as he spent time in the middle. du Plessis is crucial to CSK’s plans at the top of the order. He is a bank at the top and provides that solidity. Last season, he was their best batsman, scoring 449 runs at an average of 40.81.

Jos Buttler : Jos Buttler has had an indifferent start to this season. He batted at No. 4 in the first game against PBKS and got a fluent 13-ball 25. In the next game against DC, he opened the batting and was out for just 2. However, Buttler is one of the key players in the RR line-up. He is the game-changer and with Ben Stokes ruled out, Buttler’s form is even more critical. RR will be banking on him to provide those brisk starts at the top.
