Match Commentary
It is the start of the Delhi leg in this IPL 2021 and two teams at contrasting ends of the spectrum, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) kick things off at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. While CSK have won four and are flying high, SRH have lost four and are looking to turn things around desperately.
A lot of things have been working for CSK. It may have been the Ravindra Jadeja show against Royal Challengers Bangalore but it’s rather been a more all-round effort from this MS Dhoni-led side. The bowlers have done a fairly good job. The spinners have stood up while the pacers have made the most of the conditions when it’s been in their favour. The openers have fired while Moeen Ali at No. 3 has been a revelation. Jadeja and Sam Curran have played excellent hands with the bat while Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni have chipped in well.
The experienced trio may just be looking to get a little more consistent in the middle-order. That may be one of the agendas for CSK going forward. Also, a little more consistency with the ball, especially at the death where they have picked up the second-least wickets in this tournament.
SRH, on the other hand, have bottled up games they should’ve won, especially after the positions they were in and the starts they got from their top-order. Games against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) should’ve been easy wins while they put themselves in an excellent position against Delhi Capitals (DC), needed four off the last three balls in their last game. But all they have is just one win from five games and a seventh position on the points table after their Chennai leg.
The bowling has blown hot and cold a bit but it is the batting that is the big worry. While there is absolutely no doubt about the top three who have performed, it is the middle-order that has once again caused headaches for the SRH thinktank. They just haven’t fired. No player has stood up and delivered. There has been a bit of chopping and changing as well and SRH just haven’t found their tempo.
And now, the David Warner-led side go up against a team that has 11 wins over them and they have just four. Hence, it’s high time, SRH find a way out of this mess and get back on track.

Team News
Team news: Chennai Super Kings
Moeen Ali missed the last game due to a tight hamstring. Robin Uthappa did mention that it is no serious and the England off-spinning all-rounder is likely to be back in the XI. Thus, Imran Tahir may miss out once again. Lungi Ngidi may also come in place of Dwayne Bravo. Moreover, Ambati Rayudu was struggling with a hamstring niggle while batting against RCB. However, there is no news on him and he is likely to be fit in time for this game. Krishnappa Gowtham could come in for Shardul Thakur on a low, slow Delhi surface.
Team news: Sunrisers Hyderabad
T Natarajan has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to a knee injury. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a niggle and hence, he missed the last game. He might miss this game as well. Abdul Samad is unfit as well and his injury status is a bit unknown.
Predicted XI
Chennai Super Kings: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Lungi Ngidi/Dwayne Bravo, Krishnappa Gowtham/Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar
Sunrisers Hyderabad: David Warner (c), Jonny Bairstow (wk), Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson, Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma, Kedar Jadhav, Rashid Khan, Jagadeesha Suchith, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul
Key players
Suresh Raina : Suresh Raina has been in decent form in this IPL 2021. He struck a fluent half-century in CSK’s opening game against Delhi Capitals and has had a couple of decent starts in the last two games. He has scored 104 runs in four innings while striking at 133.33 so far. With CSK’s caravan now moving to Delhi which is expected to dish out low and slow surfaces, Raina’s role in the middle-order will be the key. He is an excellent player of spin and can hit boundaries regularly as well.
Jonny Bairstow : Jonny Bairstow seems to be in scintillating form in this tournament. The England top-order batsman has smashed 211 runs at an average of 52.75 and a strike-rate of 141.61. He has invariably given SRH some blistering starts at the top of the order. In fact, Bairstow has amassed 118 runs at a strike-rate of 176.1 in the powerplay in this 2021 season of the IPL. Thus, he will once again be critical to SRH’s chances and the 2016 IPL champions will hope he can continue to give them solid starts.
