Both teams have power-packed line-ups with decent bowling attacks. However, it is Mumbai Indians who led the DC vs MI head to head count. It was 12-12 before the last season before MI win four in a row against DC in the 2020 season.

It’s the first travel of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Delhi Capitals (DC) dive into the Chepauk madness and try to solve the death-overs nightmare. Rishabh Pant and co fly down to Chennai from Mumbai for game number 13. They take on defending and five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) who have already played three games at this venue.
These are the two finalists of the 2020 season. Both teams have won two games and have lost one. DC lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) where they couldn’t defended 147 while MI went down against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the season opener failing to defend 159.
DC have chased in two games and won both of those games. It was their top-order that laid the foundation for the wins. Shikhar Dhawan is in solid form at the top while Prithvi Shaw looks in sublime touch as well. Rishabh Pant is striking it well too while Marcus Stoinis found some form in the last game. Steve Smith (one game) and Ajinkya Rahane (two games) haven’t done much at No. 3. With the ball, the 2020 finalists have performed decently and the frontline bowlers have all chipped in well. Thus, DC have started this tournament well and are looking in good shape all-round.
On the other hand, after losing their ninth successive first game of the season, MI have turned things around as expected. Rohit Sharma and co haven’t looked at their best. The track at Chepauk hasn’t helped the batters and in spite of getting good starts, the middle-order hasn’t failed to force the pace in the middle overs and the death. It was only Kieron Pollard’s power that got them to a respectable total. Having huffed and puffed their way to totals slightly over 150, MI looked down and out at the halfway stage and even in their defence in both the games (against KKR and SRH). However, the MI bowlers choked them and applied intense pressure which saw the opponents’ crumble. The death bowling and the spinners in particular, have been at the top of their game.

Team News
Team news: Delhi Capitals
Axar Patel is still in isolation and Shams Mulani has been included as short-term replacement. Anirudha Joshi has been named as the replacement for the injured Shreyas Iyer. Anrich Nortje is also out of quarantine after he returned with three negative COVID-19 reports. However, he didn’t play Delhi’s last game against Punjab. With the game being played at the Chepauk, Delhi might want to play another spinner. Thus, Amit Mishra is likely to come in for Lukman Meriwala who made his IPL debut in the last game. Prithvi Shaw was struggling with an injury in the last game but the extent of his injury is unknown. He may miss this game considering the short turnaround if it’s worse.
Team news: Mumbai Indians
MI have no injury concerns and all players are fit and available for this game. The five-time IPL champions are unlikely to make any changes. They made a tactical change as they brought in Adam Milne in place for Marco Jensen in the last game and are most probably going to stick with that for this game as well.
Predicted XI
Delhi Capitals: Prithvi Shaw/Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, Steven Smith, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Marcus Stoinis, Lalit Yadav, Chris Woakes, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Avesh Khan, Amit Mishra
Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, Adam Milne, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult
Key players
Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra : The Delhi spinners have bowled a total 15 overs in three games at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with Ravichandran Ashwin bowling 11 of those. However, with Delhi’s caravan moving to the Chepauk, the role of the spinners is going to be much bigger and a lot more crucial, especially in the middle overs. It is Ashwin’s home ground and he has taken 46 wickets in 38 IPL games at the Chepauk. Meanwhile, Mishra has six wickets in five games at this venue. Moreover, both spinners are conceding runs at a rate of shade over 6. Thus, Ashwin and Mishra will be the key for Delhi.
Rahul Chahar : Rahul Chahar has been the unsung hero for MI in the last couple of games. The leg-spinner has made a massive difference in the middle overs in the last two games. He didn’t have a great game against RCB in the tournament opener but he has bounced back beautifully. Chahar has picked up 4/27 and 3/19 in the two games that MI won and has applied the choke in the middle overs while MI were defending scores of 152 and 150. His contribution has been massive and he is one of the reasons why MI are in the top half of the points table.
