In the second game of the day and 55 th of this 10 th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL), Melbourne Renegades will square off against Hobart Hurricanes at the iconic Melbourne fun88in.in Ground. It is a dead rubber game for Melbourne Renegades but Hobart Hurricanes are still very much in the top five race.
Melbourne Renegades are certain to finish with the wooden spoon irrespective of the result in this game. This will be the second successive season where the Melbourne Renegades finish at the bottom of the points table. They have been by far the most disappointing side of this tournament. They have just 13 points and they have won a mere three games out of the 13 they have played so far. The Aaron Finch-led side will be looking to finish the season on a high and gain a consolation win.
The Renegades are certain to finish last. but can they spoil Hobarts chances?

On the other hand, this is almost a must win game for Hobart Hurricanes. If they win this game, they will be guaranteed a spot in the Finals week else they will have to depend on a lot of other results to go their way. At one point, they were comfortably placed before they lost three games in a row to shake things up. However, with two wins in the last three games, they are back in contention and a win will be enough for them to qualify without depending on other results.
What will be pleasing for the Hobart Hurricanes is that they face a side they have had the wood over in the last few games. The head to head record may stand at 6-6 but Hobart Hurricanes have won all their last four games against Melbourne Renegades.
Team news: Melbourne Renegades
Marcus Harris returned to the Melbourne Renegades squad after the completion of the Test series against India. However, he wasn’t picked in the starting XI. Meanwhile, Kane Richardson and James Pattinson are unlikely to be available due to injury concerns.
Team news: Hobart Hurricanes
Hobart Hurricanes have named an unchanged 17-man squad for their last league encounter. There are no injury concerns either and they may not change their XI either in this big game.
Predicted XI
Melbourne Renegades : Aaron Finch (c), Shaun Marsh, Sam Harper (wk), Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mackenzie Harvey, Beau Webster, Imad Wasim, Jack Prestwidge, Josh Lalor, Zak Evans, Peter Hatzoglou
Hobart Hurricanes : D’Arcy Short, Matthew Wade (c), Ben McDermott (wk), Dawid Malan, Will Jacks, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Nick Winter, Scott Boland, Riley Meredith, Sandeep Lamichhane
Key players
Matthew Wade : Matthew Wade has looked in fabulous form in T20 cricket in the recent past. The Hobart Hurricanes opener more often than not blasts away at the top of the order and gives some fast starts. In the T20I series against India, Wade smashed 58 and 80 in the second and third T20Is respectively. He also blasted 86 in Hobart Hurricanes’ last game and laid the foundation for the win which helped them stay in contention for the Final week. The left-handed opening batsman will be the key once again as this big game and Hobart Hurricanes will need a blistering start.
Peter Hatzoglou : Peter Hatzoglou who was originally a replacement player made his T20 and professional debut in this BBL 10 and he has been pretty impressive. In fact, the 22-year-old leg-spinner has been one of the few shining lights in this tournament for Melbourne Renegades. He may have been expensive at times but he has been constantly among the wickets. Hatzoglou has picked up 16 wickets and has gone wicketless only twice this season.
