Match Prediction – MR v PS, BBL 2021 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?

A strong Melbourne Renegades squad takes on Perth Scorchers in the fourth match of the 2020 edition of the Big Bash League. It is the first game for either side in the season, and it will likely be a match-up between the Scorchers bowlers and the Renegades batsmen. Match Prediction – HH v SS, BBL 2021 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?A strong Melbourne Renegades squad takes on Perth Scorchers in the fourth match of the 2020 edition of the Big Bash League. It is the first game for either side in the season, and it will likely be a match-up between the Scorchers bowlers and the Renegades batsmen.

The Renegades went all out with their purchases in the off-season, acquiring the likes of Rilee Rossouw, Imran Tahir, Benny Howell and James Pattinson. They are also buoyed by the presence of Aaron Finch, the national team skipper for all games of the season.

Perth, on the other hand, come with a well-rounded outfit, notably strong on the bowling front with local bowlers like Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Tye, Jhye Richardson, Ashton Agar and Fawad Ahmed. The diversity in the bowling is Perth Scorchers’ strength.

Still, they also have an exciting group of batters headlined by Jason Roy (who arrives later), Colin Munro, Ashton Turner, Cameron Bancroft and Mitchell Marsh.

Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers Predicted Starting XI

Melbourne Renegades: Aaron Finch, Sam Harper, Shaun Marsh, Rilee Rossouw, Beau Webster, Mohammad Nabi/Benny Howell, Mackenzie Harvey, Kane Richardson, Josh Lalor, Cameron Boyce, Jack Prestwidge

Perth Scorchers: Cameron Bancroft, Colin Munro, Joe Clarke, Kurtis Patterson, Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Turner, Ashton Agar, Jason Behrendorff, Fawad Ahmed, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye

The head-to-head record shows that Perth Scorchers have the edge over the Melbourne Renegades. In 12 head-to-head matches, the Scorchers have ten wins, while losing just two matches. Both of the losses came in 2018 when the Renegades went on to win the title. The Scorchers have rightfully enjoyed some exceptional number of wins against the Renegades, mostly owing to a strong bowling attack. Still, this time around, their task could be cut short by some terrific batters in the opposition ranks.

Melbourne Renegades : Aaron Finch and Sam Harper should open the batting for them. Rilee Rossouw, Imran Tahir and Mohammad Nabi are expected to be the overseas players. Imad Wasim could also be a strong contender to pip Tahir in the starting XI when he is available. Will Sutherland is unavailable for this game as he is with the Australia A team. Jack Prestwidge might as such come in. James Pattinson is also unavailable for now.

Perth Scorchers : Colin Munro should open the innings with Cameron Bancroft with Joe Clarke and Josh Inglish coming in next. Mitchell Marsh and Ashton Turner will be the finishers. Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone become available after Christmas and should make the XI more interesting. For now, the focus remains in the bowling group. Cameron Green is unavailable as he is with the Australia A squad.

Key players for the Renegades vs Scorchers Clash

Aaron Finch: Australia national team players being available for the Big Bash League sides is a rare event. As such, the availability of Finch, the national team captain in limited-overs cricket, for the entire season is a massive boost for the Renegades. He is in some ridiculously good form in the format and will be expected to translate that into the BBL where he will open the batting and hopefully fulfil the same role as he does with Australia.

Andrew Tye : A death overs specialist, Andrew Tye was deemed a genuine wicket-taker with the ball at one time. That notion changed in the previous two seasons where he struggled with his back of the hand slower ball and knuckleballs. However, during the recent T20Is against India, Tye showed that he could still deceive the best. A minor change in his run-up and action has worked wonders, and the Perth bowler appears a genuine threat yet again.
