Both teams are still very much in contention for a place in the top five and seem to be well on course for it as well.

Melbourne Stars’ campaign has constantly gone up and down. At one point, they seem to be ruthless and just when they are building some momentum, they tend to fall. That’s been the story of the entire season so far for Glenn Maxwell and his men. They have won five games and lost six so far. But they still have 24 points, thanks to nine Bash Boost points. They will be hoping for a late push and if they win these last couple of games, they could well end up in the top two or top three.

On the other hand, this will be the second game in as many days for Perth Scorchers. They are pretty well placed at the moment and they seem to be in superb form at the moment. After a sluggish start, they seem to be on a roll and are looking like the team to beat alongside Sydney Sixers in this tournament. They have won six out of their last seven games and have constantly been on the rise on the points table. A couple more wins might well guarantee them a spot in the top two.

As far as head to head record is concerned, it is locked at 8-8. Last season, Melbourne Stars won both the encounters while the fixture earlier this season ended in a no-result as rain played spoilsport.

Team news: Melbourne Stars

Will Pucovski was expected to make his BBL debut with the Melbourne Stars this season. However, he suffered a shoulder injury in the third Test against India and he will consult a specialist in the coming week. He has been ruled out of the entire season. However, Nathan Coulter-Nile returned to the Melbourne Stars squad in the last game after completely recovering from a calf injury he suffered earlier this season. James Seymour who was added as a replacement player for Haris Rauf who left to join the Pakistan Test squad has also been included in the 15-man squad.

Team news: Perth Scorchers

Cameron Green will not join the Perth Scorchers squad this season as he returns home to take some rest after his maiden Test series. Meanwhile, the three-time champions welcome back their skipper Mitchell Marsh as the Western Australian all-rounder has recovered from his side strain. He missed the last couple of games and is expected to slot back into the XI straightaway. The rest of the squad remains the same as Perth Scorchers have named a 16-man squad for the two back to back games.

Predicted XI

Melbourne Stars : Marcus Stoinis, Andre Fletcher, Nick Larkin, Glenn Maxwell (c), Nic Maddinson, Hilton Cartwright, Seb Gotch (wk), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Adam Zampa, Liam Hatcher, Zahir Khan

Perth Scorchers : Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, Colin Munro, Josh Inglis (wk), Mitchell Marsh (c), Ashton Turner, Aaron Hardie, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Fawad Ahmed

Key players

Glenn Maxwell : After a blistering start to this season, Glenn Maxwell’s bat seems to have gone quiet in the last few games. Since the 70 he scored against Hobart Hurricanes, the Melbourne Stars skipper has mustered just 64 runs in six innings. However, he is bowling well and is nipping out a wicket or two every game. However, if Stars are to make a late surge, Maxwell’s form with the bat is going to be crucial.

Jhye Richardson : Jhye Richardson is currently leading the wicket charts in this BBL 10 (Golden Arm cap). The Western Australian fast bowler has picked up 21 wickets from 11 games and has a strike-rate of 11.0. Meanwhile, he is conceding runs at an economy of 6.28 and has bowled the most dot balls as well. Hence, Richardson’s role will continue to be the key to Perth Scorchers’ success.
