Match Prediction IPL 2021: MI vs DC, Match 46 Preview

Mumbai Indians (MI) take on Delhi Capitals (DC) in match number 46 of this 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After three losses in a row, defending champions MI got back on track with a win over Punjab Kings. The bowling stepped up collectively before the middle-order came together nicely to take MI over the line. It is the MI batting line-up that has been a cause of concern. Apart from Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma at the top, none of them have been consistent enough. Suryakumar Yadav’s barren run has extended while the Pandya brothers haven’t looked completely comfortable. Kieron Pollard has looked decent but hasn’t converted. The bowlers have fared decently but the spinners haven’t really stepped up. With three games to go, MI will be eyeing a clean sweep and forge their way into the top four.

On the other hand, DC have been supremely consistent over the last three seasons. In this season, they have constantly been in the top two and will be eyeing to cement their spot in one of those two positions. The Rishabh Pant-led side have eight wins and three losses. It is the bowling that has been superb and has been the driving force for Delhi this season. Apart from that, the top-order has been solid and has done the bulk of the scoring. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw have scored 300+ runs while Rishabh Pant has also gone past the 300-run mark, he hasn’t really blasted away and looked at his deadly best. Plus, DC are coming off a loss and they will want to get back to winning ways which will officially seal their spot in the playoffs.

Team News

Team news: Mumbai Indians

With the return of Hardik Pandya, MI have all their players fit and available. Ishan Kishan was left out of the last game and with Saurabh Tiwary doing well, the latter will retain his place. MI will most probably go unchanged in this game.

Team news: Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant admitted that Prithvi Shaw will be about 80% fit before this game against MI. However, Marcus Stoinis may need another couple of games to be fully fit. If Shaw is fit, he is likely to come in for Steve Smith. The rest of the line-up is expected to remain the same.

Predicted XI

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Saurabh Tiwary, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult

Delhi Capitals: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw/Steven Smith, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan

Key players

Kieron Pollard : Kieron Pollard has been in decent touch in the recent past. Even though he hasn’t got big runs, the hard-hitting West Indian all-rounder has hasn’t really looked out of sorts. He has got starts but hasn’t been able to kick on and give MI the finish that he usually does. However, he did smash a four and a six against Punjab as he scored a 7-ball 15 not out to guide MI to a win. In addition to this, Pollard chipped in well with the ball as he took a couple of key wickets in the only over, he bowled. Thus, he could well be the one to watch out for.

Shikhar Dhawan : Shikhar Dhawan has had an inconsistent run in this UAE leg of the IPL 2021. The left-handed opener has scores of 42, 8 and 24 in the last three games. However, he has been a very consistent performer for Delhi at the top of the order. He is at the top of the run charts and has amassed 454 runs at an average of 45.40.
