Match Prediction – MI vs KKR, 34th Match IPL 2021 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?
Mumbai Indians (MI) take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match number 34 of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). These two teams have had contrasting starts to their campaigns in the second half of the tournament.
MI who had four wins and three losses before the second half started lost to Chennai Super Kings despite being in a strong position early on. The batting flopped and all the big guns just couldn’t get going. Meanwhile, the bowling was decent, but it fell away towards the end of the innings. Overall, it was MI’s fourth loss of the season and another one could make their campaign a touch jittery.
On the other hand, KKR haven’t had a great start to their campaign. All they could manage were two wins from seven games and were languishing at the second-last spot after the first half. But they had a near-perfect encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore. They bowled out Virat Kohli and co. for a mere 92 before hunting it down with seven overs to spare. Shubman Gill’s form will also please the KKR management after a sluggish first half.
MI could well be the overwhelming favourites. KKR just don’t know how to get over the line against MI. These two teams have featured in 28 T20s and MI have a staggering 22 wins over KKR, while the Men in Purple have won just six games against MI. But Eoin Morgan and co. are coming into this game with their confidence sky-high. They will be looking to break their MI jinx. Since the start of 2015, KKR have won just two games against MI out of 13, with the last win coming in 2019.
MI have a couple of worries. Skipper Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Hardik Pandya didn’t feature in MI’s last game against CSK. Rohit rested himself as a precautionary measure. He was injured during the fourth Test at the Oval against England and didn’t field on the entire fifth day. Hardik also sat out of the last game as he suffered a niggle in training. He is likely to take the field as well.
Team news: Kolkata Knight Riders
After that thumping win over RCB, KKR are unlikely to change their winning combination. It is a side full of power-hitters in the middle-order which isn’t going to change either.
Quinton de Kock
: Quinton de Kock has been batting really well in the recent past. The South African left-handed wicket-keeper batsman has adapted well in the second phase of the IPL and looked good for his 17 in the first game.
De Kock smashed a couple of half-centuries against SL
South Africa won the T20I series 3-0
But both, de Kock and MI will want to convert these starts into big scores and it could well be around the corner for him.
Andre Russell
: It was Andre Russell, the bowler who came to the party in KKR’s first game since the restart of the IPL 2021.
Three overs, three wickets, and nine runs conceded
Russell’s figures are mighty impressive
Besides this, he can be destructive with the bat. Russell was in decent touch in the IPL and CPL but couldn’t really make it big.
