Match Prediction – MI vs PBKS, 42nd Match IPL 2021 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?
Here are two teams who are stuck on the eight-point muddle on the points table. Both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have a similar record after 10 matches – four wins and six losses.
Five-time champions MI seem to have hit a roadblock as soon as they landed in the UAE this time around. In the first half, they were inconsistent, but they were finding ways to win and accumulate vital points. However, that hasn’t been the case in the second phase. The Rohit Sharma-led side has lost three games in a row and are in dire straits at the moment.
Their net run rate of -0.551 has pushed them down to No. 7 as well on the points table. The batting has flopped big time and it has heavily relied on the openers to do the bulk of the scoring. The Indian middle-order core of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and the Pandya brothers (Hardik and Krunal) just haven’t fired. And MI need to fix that soon as the bowling has fared quite well.
On the other hand, Punjab have been very inconsistent as well. They messed up the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) when eight runs were required off the last two overs with eight wickets in hand. But they fought really hard to eke out a five-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad as they defended 125.
Thus, KL Rahul and co will have some sort of confidence heading into this contest. Moreover, they have beaten MI earlier this season and will be hoping for an encore.
Despite losing the game against RCB pretty badly, MI may not make any changes to their line-up. With the return of Hardik Pandya, this seems like their best XI and they would back that to produce the goods.
Punjab Kings
PBKS may not make any changes to the playing XI that played against SRH. Batting depth is an issue but Chris Jordan is the only one that Punjab can slot in if they want instead of Nathan Ellis if they want some sort of batting assurance in the lower order.
Punjab Kings:
KL Rahul (c & wk), Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Deepak Hooda, Harpreet Brar, Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Nathan Ellis, Arshdeep Singh
Key players
Rohit Sharma
: It’s been an interesting season of the IPL for Rohit Sharma. The MI skipper has consistently got starts throughout the tournament but just hasn’t been able to kick on and get those big scores. He has got out under 30 just twice in nine matches but he has recorded only one half-century.
With a strike-rate of 128.85, Rohit is key for MI
The opener has scored 326 runs but needs to avoid cheap dismissals
That has hurt the defending champions multiple times and has affected their momentum with the bat. Thus, it is key from MI’s batting point of view that Rohit converts these starts and gets big scores.
Ravi Bishnoi
: It is hard to comprehend on how Ravi Bishnoi has been left out of the PBKS playing XI time and again. Out of the 10 games that Punjab have played this season, the 21-year-old leg-spinner has played just five games.
7 wickets in five games, economy rate of 6.1
Bishnoi has only conceded more than 25 runs once
He was the player of the match against SRH as he returned with figures of 3/24. Hence, Bishnoi will once again be the player to watch out for.
