BBL 2020/21: Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat, Challenger Match Preview

Perth Scorchers have had a solid run after an initial slump. They won eight out of their last 10 games to finish second on the points table. However, they did lose to Sydney Sixers by a massive margin in the Qualifier. But they have been very good overall. The batting has clicked as the likes of Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, Colin Munro, Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh have all fired at different stages. With the ball, it is Jhye Richardson who has led the way and he has had decent support as well. Thus, the Scorchers seem to be a well-rounded side and might be tough to beat.

However, on the other hand, Brisbane Heat seem to be on a roll in the recent past. They have won four games on the bounce and have some excellent momentum on their side. Chris Lynn and his men have won two back to back knockout games as well (Eliminator against Adelaide Strikers and Knockout against Sydney Thunder). They aced both games despite being in tricky situations. The batting has been slightly inconsistent in the last few games but it is the bowling who have done well collectively.

As far as head to head record is concerned, it’s almost neck and neck. Perth Scorchers are marginally ahead with an advantage of 8-7.

Team news: Perth Scorchers

Perth Scorchers are likely to name an unchanged 16-man squad for this Challenger game against Brisbane Heat. All players are fit and raring to go.

Team news: Brisbane Heat

Brisbane Heat look a pretty settled unit at the moment and they are unlikely to make any changes to their side as well.

Predicted XI

Perth Scorchers : Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, Colin Munro, Josh Inglis (wk), Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Turner (c), Aaron Hardie, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Fawad Ahmed

Brisbane Heat : Sam Heazlett, Chris Lynn (c), Joe Denly, Marnus Labuschagne, Jimmy Peirson (wk), Joe Burns, Lewis Gregory, Mark Steketee, Mitchell Swepson, Ben Laughlin, Morne Morkel/ Xavier Bartlett

Key players

Josh Inglis : With the big stars around him, Josh Inglis has gone about his job quietly and a lot of people haven’t noticed him. He has made some vital contributions this season and has bailed Perth Scorchers out on multiple occasions. The wicket-keeper batsman has aggregated 391 runs at an average of 35.54 and has a strike-rate of 142.18. Thus, the No. 4 will continue to play a key role in that Perth Scorchers batting line-up.

Marnus Labuschagne : Marnus Labuschagne has been a massive addition to this Brisbane Heat side. He has come in and added a different dimension altogether. The South Africa-born has been batting well and has been anchoring the innings well. In addition to that, his bowling has been a huge positive for the Heat. Labuschagne is constantly giving them breakthroughs and he is picking up big wickets. Moreover, he is keeping things tight from his end. Overall, Labuschagne has amassed 161 runs in five innings and has 10 wickets to his name at an economy of 7.33. There is absolutely no doubt that he will be a massive player for the Heat in this Challenger.
