Match Prediction – PBKS vs DC, 29th Match IPL 2021 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?

It’s been an indifferent start for Punjab Kings (PBKS). Time and again, they have found ways to pull upstage some big teams but they have also lost regularly. But their performance in two out of their last three games will give them confidence.

They beat the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and then outplayed an in-form Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side.

However, Punjab do have a few holes to plug. The dependence on skipper KL Rahul at the top of the order is huge while Chris Gayle has been inconsistent with his form. Apart from these two and Mayank Agarwal, there hasn’t been much from the PBKS batting line-up.

The middle-order hasn’t really come to the party (barring that one Deepak Hooda knock) and that is an issue for PBKS. Harpreet Brar’s was an excellent one as he contributed all-round and he could be the one who lends balance while leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has been pretty good as well. The fast bowlers will need to bring a little more consistently.

On the other hand, DC have had an odd loss here and there but overall, the Rishabh Pant-led side have been in excellent form. They have won five out of their seven games and their only two losses were tight contests against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The 2020 finalists don’t really have any issues as such. The openers have blazed away, scoring the bulk of the runs and have been one of the big reasons why Delhi have been so successful so far. The middle-order has chipped in pretty well too and they are match-winners too.

Meanwhile, the bowling has been excellent and have performed well all-round. Thus, alongside RCB and CSK, they are one of the teams to beat this season.

Earlier this season, it was Delhi who got the better of Punjab. However, Delhi are behind Punjab in head to head record. The latter have won 15 games while Delhi have won 12.

Team News

Team news: Punjab Kings

Mayank Agarwal was hit on his arm in the game against KKR and hence, he missed the last game against RCB. He might miss this game as well as Prabhsimran Singh might continue to bat at the top of the order. Harpreet Brar had a game to remember while Riley Meredith was impressive as well. Thus, all three players that came into the XI are likely to retain their spots. However, Nicholas Pooran might make way for Dawid Malan.

Team news: Delhi Capitals

Amit Mishra had a shoulder injury and hence, he missed the last game. His availability and the extent of his injury isn’t known. Lalit Yadav came in and did really well. Thus, he may retain his place. Ravichandran Ashwin has taken a break from the IPL and is unavailable as he has gone back home to support his family in the fight against COVID-19.

Predicted XI

Punjab Kings: KL Rahul (c & wk), Prabhsimran Singh, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran/Dawid Malan, Deepak Hooda, Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, Chris Jordan, Riley Meredith, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Shami

Delhi Capitals: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Steven Smith, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma, Avesh Khan

Key players

Chris Gayle : From time to time, Chris Gayle has showed glimpses of form in this tournament. He has three scores in the 40s but apart from that he has had four failures. Thus, the Universe Boss will be in search of some consistency. Gayle seemed to be striking it beautifully in the game against RCB and smashed 46 off 24 balls, smashing six fours and two sixes. Thus, Punjab will be hoping that the veteran West Indian can once again turn up and keep providing these blistering knocks.

Avesh Khan : Avesh Khan has been an underrated player in the DC line-up. The Madhya Pradesh fast bowler has been highly impressive in this IPL 2021. He has taken the role of the premier Indian pacer in the Delhi line-up beautifully and has performed outstandingly well.

He has picked up 13 wickets at an economy rate of 7.38. He has been superb in each stage of the game. Be it in the powerplay, middle overs or even the death, Avesh has been brilliant. He has an economy rate of 5.86 in the powerplay and 8.12 at the death.
