It is Eliminator time in the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are up against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Sharjah. Both teams have had a solid run in the second half and have momentum behind them.
RCB have been in top form throughout this season. They finished with nine wins and five losses. The Virat Kohli-led side have won four out of their last five encounters. Their last win against table-toppers Delhi Capitals where KS Bharat smashed a six off the last ball to seal the victory will give them quite a bit of confidence. They missed out on the top-two spot only due to net run rate.
Overall, the RCB bowling has been excellent. Their only concern might be the lack of wickets in the powerplay but the way they’ve bowled in the back half of the innings has been superb. Meanwhile, the batting has looked decent as well, and apart from AB de Villiers, everyone has had a significant score in this UAE leg.
On the other hand, KKR who started seventh on the points table at the start of the second half have made a massive surge. They won five and lost two in this UAE leg. The top-order has fired and that has got them going. Venkatesh Iyer, Shubman Gill, and Rahul Tripathi have looked solid at the top while the middle-order has been inconsistent. Meanwhile, the bowling has been pretty good.
In their last game, KKR beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) comprehensively. Unlike the last few seasons where they fell behind and couldn’t qualify for the playoffs due to net run rate, KKR took care of that right from the start.
Moreover, KKR annihilated RCB in the first game that these two sides played in the UAE earlier this season. The overall head to head record is in favour of KKR and they lead 15-13.

Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB are unlikely to make any changes to the side that won against DC. Daniel Christian’s form with the bat may be a slight concern but he has contributed with the ball while George Garton has also been expensive. However, they might not want to tinker with the winning combination which seems pretty settled as well.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Lockie Ferguson is fit and firing once again. Meanwhile, Andre Russell has started training and is likely to return to the playing XI for the playoffs. Thus, he will most probably replace Shakib Al Hasan. The rest of the XI will remain the same.
Predicted XI
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli (c), Devdutt Padikkal, Srikar Bharat (wk), Daniel Christian, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Shahbaz Ahmed, Harshal Patel, George Garton, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal
Kolkata Knight Riders: Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan (c), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Andre Russell/Shakib Al Hasan, Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, Shivam Mavi, Varun Chakravarthy
Key players
Glenn Maxwell : Glenn Maxwell has been an absolute revelation in this IPL 2021. The Victorian off-spinning all-rounder is batting beautifully at the moment, and he has amassed 498 runs at an average of 45.27. He has a strike-rate of 147.33 as well.
Besides, he has smashed four half-centuries in his last five innings. Overall, he has hit six half-centuries and RCB have won each of those six games. Such has been the impact Maxwell has had this season for the three-time finalists.
Glenn Maxwell – Top Batsman (RCB) @4.75
Has a strike-rate of 147.33
Lockie Ferguson: Lockie Ferguson has played only five games in this tournament but he has managed to pick up at least one wicket in every single game. Overall, the New Zealand quick has returned with 10 scalps and has an excellent economy rate of 6.22.
Plus, he averages 11.20 with the ball and strikes once every 11 deliveries. He has rattled the batters with pace and has used his slower ones to great effect as well.
Lockie Ferguson – Top Wicket Taker (KKR) @4.00
Has an average of 11.20
