Post Match Summary RCB vs MI, Match 39
Mumbai Indians fell to seventh on the IPL points table after a lacklustre display against Royal Challengers Bangalore who proved too good for the men in blue on the night.
Hashal Patel’s hat-trick, a brilliant captain’s knock from Virat Kohli, and contributions from Glenn Maxell and Yuzvendra Chahal saw RCB move up to third on the table with 12 points from 10 games.
RCB needed a win to get their season back on track, and it came at the right time against the defending champions, whose title defence looks to be hanging by a thread.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Innings
-
Kohli’s half century after being dropped on zero should have been a sign of things to come
-
The RCB skipper became the first Indian to reach 10,000 T20 runs – and fifth overall after Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Shoaib Malik and David Warner
-
Harshal is now this IPL season’s highest-wicket taker following his hat-trick last night
Mumbai Indians Innings
-
Rohit Sharma started off well for MI but his 43 was in vain
-
Jasprit Bumrah shone for the side with 3 from 36
-
Mumbai’s middle order struggled to find their feet and RCB’s bowlers were quick to work their way through the line up
Team Lineup
Match Prediction – RCB vs MI, 39th Match IPL 2021 – Who Will Win Today’s Match?
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI)
have had a stuttering start to this second half of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both teams have started this second phase with two losses.
RCB who had five wins and two losses at the end of the first half have now lost two games in a row. That makes it seven losses on the bounce in the UAE for RCB. They lost five successive games at the end of last season (2020) and the two losses this year makes it seven. Neither the batting nor the bowling has come to the party in these two games. While Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal scored half-centuries against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), none of the others stepped up. Meanwhile, the bowling seems to lack bite. They just haven’t been able to pick wickets regularly. Be it the pacers or the leg-spinning twins Yuzvendra Chahal and Wanindu Hasaranga, everyone has disappointed.
On the other hand, the defending champions MI haven’t started well either. After having a win-loss record of 4-3 at the halfway mark, MI have lost both their games. They have slipped to the sixth spot on the points table. The middle-order batting has failed in both the games and that has cost them quite a bit. The bowling has fared decently but they will be in search of some consistency. MI are known to turn things around and they will be looking to do that once again. Also, they have a better head to head record against RCB – 17-11.

Team News
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB might ring in a couple of changes. Wanindu Hasaranga has been disappointing in the two games so far and he could face the axe. Kyle Jamieson could slot back into the XI. Shahbaz Ahmed could replace Navdeep Saini after the latter’s expensive outing (0/25 from two overs) against CSK.
Mumbai Indians
Rohit Sharma returned to the XI and led the side against KKR. However, there are still some fitness concerns over Hardik Pandya. Reports are that he is very close to being fully fit but it is unclear if he is available for selection for this game.
Predicted XI
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Virat Kohli (c), Devdutt Padikkal, Srikar Bharat (wk), Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Tim David, Shahbaz Ahmed, Kyle Jamieson, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal
Mumbai Indians:
Quinton de Kock (wk), Rohit Sharma (c), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya/Saurabh Tiwary, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Adam Milne, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult
Key players
AB de Villiers
: RCB’s fortunes have fluctuated with AB de Villiers’ form. He was superb in the first half of the of the IPL 2021 but he hasn’t had the best of starts to this second half. The South African superstar was out for a duck in the game against KKR before he got just 12 against CSK. He has already played some magnificent knocks this season but the RCB middle-order relies heavily on de Villiers. Thus, he will be the key for RCB. Moreover, de Villiers likes playing against MI and has amassed 774 runs at an average of 45.53 and a strike-rate of 147.71.
Kieron Pollard
: Kieron Pollard has been consistently getting good starts in the recent past. The hard-hitting West Indian all-rounder has aggregated 204 runs at an average of 40.80 and a strike-rate of 160.62 in this IPL. He has also hit 15 sixes which is the joint second-most so far this season. Besides, Pollard has a top record against RCB. He has accumulated 544 runs while averaging 38.86 and striking at 164.85. He got a 24-ball 60 not out against RCB at this very venue last year.
