The Carrara Oval in Queensland sees Sydney Sixers take on the Brisbane Heat in match number 35 of this 10 th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).
Sydney Sixers who were the table toppers a couple of games ago have dropped down to the second spot after Adelaide Strikers won their last game. Sydney Sixers have won five games and lost three. They have 21 points, six of which have come from the Bash Boost. However, they have been shaken a touch in the last few games. In their last three games, they have lost two games – one to Brisbane Heat against whom they couldn’t defend 166 and in their last game, they were bundled out for a mere 97 while chasing 184. Thus, the Daniel Hughes-led side need to pick themselves up in the coming games.
On the other hand, Brisbane Heat are picking up some steam and are slowly climbing the points table. After starting with three losses on the bounce, the Heat have accumulated four wins from their last five games and they have now jumped to the fifth position on the points table. Three of their wins have come chasing and they have chased really well. The Heat also defended a big total well too. Thus, things are clicking well for them and they will hope to continue this momentum.
However, they face a stiff challenge against the Sixers who have had the wood over them in the past and have won 10 games to Heat’s three. But they will take positives from their last meeting which was earlier this season where the Heat chased 166 with seven balls to spare against the defending champions.
Team news: Sydney Sixers
Despite a couple of losses in their last three games, Sydney Sixers are unlikely to make a slew of changes. In fact, they could well name an unchanged 18-man squad for this game.
Team news: Brisbane Heat
Chris Lynn has recovered completely and has come back to lead the Brisbane Heat once again. He has already played a couple of games – one as an X-factor substitute and he started in the XI against the Melbourne Stars. The rest of the squad pick themselves and no major changes are expected.
Predicted XI
Sydney Sixers : Josh Philippe (wk), Jack Edwards, James Vince, Daniel Hughes (c), Jordan Silk, Daniel Christian, Carlos Brathwaite, Steve OKeefe, Jackson Bird, Jake Ball, Lloyd Pope
Brisbane Heat : Max Bryant, Chris Lynn (c), Joe Denly, Joe Burns, Jimmy Peirson (wk), Lewis Gregory, James Bazley, Jack Wildermuth, Mark Steketee, Xavier Bartlett, Mujeeb Ur Rahman
Key players
Josh Phillipe : Josh Phillipe may have scored just one half-century in the current season of the BBL but he has batting beautifully. The Western Australian wicket-keeper batsman has been in excellent form and has aggregated 266 runs which is the second-most in this BBL 10 at the moment. Moreover, he has a very good strike-rate of 142.24 as well. Phillipe has three scores in the 40s and a 95 and he has been key at the top of the order for the Sydney Sixers.
Mark Steketee : Mark Steketee hasn’t really been in the limelight but he has been one of the reasons for Brisbane Heat’s turnaround this season. The 26-year-old fast bowler from Queensland has been very impressive. He has leaked a few runs and has been expensive at times but overall, he has been good and has constantly chipped away with wickets. In fact, Steketee has picked up 15 wickets in this tournament. Out of those 15, 11 have resulted in Heat’s wins. Hence, he has been a quiet but consistent performer for the Heat this season.
