Sydney Sixers will be up against Melbourne Renegades in match number six of this BBL 10. The Bellerive Oval in Hobart will be the host for this game. This will be the second game played at the same venue as Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes square off in the afternoon.
This will be the second game for the Sydney Sixers. The defending champions lost the tournament opener against Hobart Hurricanes and threw away positions of strength with both bat and ball. They had Hobart Hurricanes four for two in the second over but couldn’t capitalize as they conceded 178.
Meanwhile, with the bat, they were in total command and were well placed at 118/1 in the 14th over but they lost a few quick wickets and never recovered. Thus, the Daniel Hughes-led side will be looking to bounce back.
This will be the second game for Melbourne Renegades in as many days. Melbourne face Perth Scorchers in their first 2021 BBL game of the tournament before playing Sydney Sixers at the same venue less than 24 hours later. Last season, they suffered nine successive defeats to start the tournament and eventually, ended up with the wooden spoon as they could win just three games in the entire season. Hence, Aaron Finch and his men will be desperate to get off to a good start this time around.
Predicted Starting XI
Sydney Sixers : Josh Philippe (wk), Jack Edwards, James Vince, Daniel Hughes (c), Jordan Silk, Daniel Christian, Carlos Brathwaite, Ben Dwarshuis, Steve OKeefe, Ben Manenti, Gurinder Sandhu
Melbourne Renegades : Aaron Finch (c), Shaun Marsh, Rilee Rossouw, Beau Webster, Mohammad Nabi, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sam Harper (wk), Kane Richardson, Jon Holland, Zak Evans, Josh Lalor
Sydney Sixers: Sydney Sixers had named a 16-man squad for the first game and they are likely to go unchanged. They are missing a couple of their big stars as Moises Henriques and Mitchell Starc will be unavailable due to their Australia ‘A’ and Australia Test squad commitments. As far as the XI is concerned, they might not chop and change too much after just one game.
Melbourne Renegades : Melbourne Renegades are one of the least affected teams by Australia’s current international schedule and with the Australia ‘A’ game against India going on. The only big player that is unavailable for them is James Pattinson. Thus, they have named a 16-man squad for the first two games of the season. Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim is on international duty in New Zealand while South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir is not available too. Leg-spinner Cameron Boyce who was very impressive in the will miss the start of the BBL season as he battles a health issue.
Josh Phillipe : The Sydney Sixers wicket-keeper batsman didn’t have a great start to this BBL season. However, Josh Phillipe is a promising and an exciting talent coming up the ranks in Australian cricket. He was very consistently in the 2019-20 season as he amassed 487 runs at an average of 37.46. He made five half-centuries, including one in the final which helped Sydney Sixers lift the title. Thus, Phillipe will be one of the players to watch out for in this game.
Mohammad Nabi: The star off-spinning all-rounder from Afghanistan has been a regular member of the Melbourne Renegades side over the last few years. Moreover, Mohammad Nabi has been one of the consistent performers in T20 cricket all around the world. He was very good in the Caribbean Premier League earlier this year. Also, in the BBL last season, Nabi played just six games, scoring 160 runs at a strike-rate of 160.00 and also returned with five wickets.
